The Importance of Using Cat Carriers
Whenever a cat owner is bound to travel, carriers are one of the things that they think of especially if they intend to bring their cats with them. Like any other things you purchase, you need to consider a number of factors first before you purchase a cat carrier.
When purchasing a cat carrier you have to make sure that your cat will not feel any discomfort once you place them in it. With this it only means one thing, you have to make sure that the size of the carrier is appropriate for your cat. It is important that your pet is able to lie down and stand on the carrier with ease. It is not enough that they can lie down or stand comfortable in the carrier; they must be able to stretch their bodies as well. Another thing that you have to consider is the surface of the carrier; it must be comfortable enough and will not irritate the skin or fur of your cat once in contact with it.
Hard kennels is ideal for those who plant to travel through a plane. But of course, for other modes of transportation you can just purchase those soft or a wicker carrier.
If the trip will take some time, then you may need to purchase the carrier ahead of time and start placing them in the carrier so that they’ll get used to it. Perhaps you can start placing them in the carrier for a few days prior the trip, you can place them for several minutes each day. It is important on your part to make them feel relax while in the carrier or kennel so that they will not panic when they are placed in it. If you want to make sure that they won’t feel upset and scared then you will have to let them get used of the kennel setting.
If you opt for a hard carrier, then you can use a mat on the surface or a paper lining to add comfort to your pet. If you are able to do this then your car will not feel any discomfort. This makes also cleaning their mess much easier on your part. If you want to add a piece of cloth or foam on the kennel, it is also possible.
Another thing that you can do is add some fragrance in the carrier but of course not those too strong just some light scent This is especially true if you intend to travel in enclosed areas like in a car or a bus.
In traveling with your cat you have to make sure the contact information and your name is found in the carrier or on your cat’s collar.
Another thing that you need to see to it is that the kennel or the carrier is locked. For those who will travel by plane, the flight personnel will be the one who will make sure it’s locked but if you will not travel by plane then you’ll have to do this one.
